Pinterest – Now we’re paying attention, but how do we use it?

We’ve seen the emergence of Google+ over the past few months as it quickly became the new major player in the social media game. But that perhaps didn’t come as too much of a surprise considering the weight of the Internet giant, and the fact that we had seen Google had try and fail many times to establish a social network with previous attempts. (Remember the ill-fated Google Buzz and Google Wave?) We knew they would remain persistent.

However now the social media scene has taken notice of perhaps a more surprising new player, Pinterest, which suddenly caught people’s attention with news it had driven more referral traffic in the US than Google+, YouTube and LinkedIn last month, already establishing itself as the new social site of 2012 after great success in the US at the end of 2011. The growth figures are particularly impressive considering the site is still invite only.

Ok so we know we should be paying attention to Pinterest, but what type of network is Pinterest? How can we use it?

So what exactly is Pinterest?

What you may have missed in social media last week: So long LinkedIn Tweets app: Hello Facebook Timeline and the Google Backlash continues

No more Tweets app on LinkedIn :(

The Tweets application on LinkedIn that allows you to control your Twitter account from within the LinkedIn platform hadn’t been working properly for quite a few weeks. After ignoring many requests for clarification on why the app was still not working, LinkedIn finally announced last week that they would be abandoning the app today. (Even though it hasn’t actually worked for the past 2 months, we’ve not really had a choice anyway)

The Twitter integration with LinkedIn is still very much in place, with the ability to link your Twitter account to your LinkedIn account, being able to post from one to the other. Your Twitter account will not be removed; it is just the particular application that LinkedIn introduced in 2010 will no longer be available.
