Do you need a website, or have you a website which is out of date or that you can’t maintain?  In this one-day workshop we’ll take you step by step through building yourself a professional-looking website using Wordpress.

This hands-on workshop is designed for those who would like to:

• get up and running quickly with a simple but expandable website
• save time and money
• have a professional looking website and/or blog, under your own control
• promote their small business, organisation or professional service
• start using effective online marketing techniques

We will cover:

• choosing and using a domain name
• hosting at wordpress.com or in your own space
• choosing and customizing a design or theme
• setting up your pages
• your navigation menu and keywords
• how to easily maintain and add pages and information
• where to find tools and plugins to add special features
• ways to find out who is visiting
• why Wordpress is Google friendly

You’ll need to bring:

• your own laptop – or book one with us in advance
• willingness to experiment
• electronic copies of any logos, photos and marketing or descriptive text that you already have relating to your company: we’ll show you where to find photos and graphics but if you would prefer to use your own images, or to choose the best possible images for your site, you should get hold of them beforehand: we can recommend www.fotolia.com.  Bringing such content will ensure you have a more complete website at the end of the day, but we will show you how you can very simply add further information and elements at a later date
• some broad ideas of a domain name you would like to use and if you have one already, details of how to access it (username and password from the company you buy it from). We use www.namealerts.co.uk
• if you wish to host your own website, then you should arrange for hosting and installation of Wordpress before the workshop (contact us beforehand for advice): if you haven’t your own hosted site ready, then we will set up a site at yourdomain.wordpress.com during the workshop.

You won’t need to know any programming or code: building a website can be as easy as using a word processor or your browser. We’ll be using the easy Wordpress interface

At the end of this workshop you will have a simple but professional and easy-to-update website that could have you cost you £1000-£3000 from a web design company.

Just in case, you also have access to support afterwards via our Reach Further community – but we don’t think you’ll need it.
