Our Approach

We believe in creating engaging, well-designed, interactive learning opportunities (both formal and informal) so that units, programmes and courses meet their learning outcomes.  Whether stand-alone self-study online materials or tutor-led courses, our  online learning provides options for collaborative and social learning in a course-specific learning community, student support community or community of practice.Forums can be used for formal learning, designed by a tutor trained to teach online, as well as for general support and peer support. A course cohort may have a private group or subcommunity where course topic-related discussions take place and/or be supported in a more in formal way in an online community space. The future of online learning may look like this:

  • a personal space, where individuals can use the tools of their own choice and aggregate their chosen resources,
  • support for both formal and informal learning, self-directed and collaborative, with tutor support where appropriate
  • a more social, collaborative, peer-supported approach to learning with the emphasis on user-chosen and user-generated content.

We also supply training in how to manage, moderate and engage with the community so learners, facilitators, e-mdoerators and tutors are confident in how they are managing the community, and have the skills to be able to develop it in a p[roactive way, not just reacting on a day-to-day basis.
